Tourist traps & safety recommendations
Pickpockets: Be cautious with your personal belongings, especially in crowded places like public transport, markets, or popular tourist areas. Keep wallets, mobile phones, and valuables in secure places (e.g., in zipped pockets or under your clothing).
Currency Exchange: Always check the exchange rate and fees in advance. Avoid unofficial exchange offices or offers to exchange money on the street.
Royal Exchange (Prague 1 center)
Exchange Fortuna (Nový Smíchov shopping center, Prague 5)
ČD Exchange Office (inside the ČD shop at the Main Railway Station)
Tourist Traps:
Restaurants in the city center: Some restaurants in tourist areas have inflated prices for low-quality food. Check online reviews and avoid places without clearly displayed prices.
Overpriced services: Beware of "taxis" without meters or street vendors. Use official taxi services like Bolt, Uber, or Liftago instead.
Souvenirs: Traditional souvenirs can be overpriced at major tourist markets. Look for smaller shops outside the city center.
Tips for Safe Travel:
Public transport and night travel: Be cautious after dark, especially when using public transport. Avoid deserted areas and use navigation apps like Google Maps.
Securing personal belongings: If needed, use luggage storage services at the Main Railway Station (https://prague.eu/en/discover/luggage-storage-prague-main-railway-station/).
Money and documents: Do not carry all your money and documents at once. Keep a backup in a secure place.

Student Discounts with ISIC Card
Holders of the ISIC card can enjoy discounts on admission to many Prague attractions, museums, or when purchasing public transport tickets or intercity travel. ITIC cardholders can also use it; however, it's advisable to check in advance whether it is accepted.

- Prague Castle
- National Museum
- Vyšehrad Monuments
- Technical Museum
Cultural Events:
Theatres, concerts, festivals (check availability in advance).

Traveling between cities in the Czech Republic is convenient and affordable. Popular options include:
Trains: Operated by České dráhy (Czech Railways), RegioJet, or Leo Express.
Buses: Reliable services like RegioJet, FlixBus, or Student Agency.
Discounts: Students with ISIC cards can often benefit from reduced fares.
Restaurants and Cafés:
Some establishments offer student menus or discounts (look for the ISIC logo at the counter), such as UGO Salad Bars.
We recommend always having your ISIC card with you and checking the availability of discounts before visiting attractions or purchasing services.
Cultural Insights
Tips:
It is customary to tip around 10% of the total bill if you are satisfied with the service.
In some restaurants, the tip may already be included in the bill—check before paying.
Public Behavior:
Speak quietly on public transport and in public spaces, as loudness is considered impolite.
Follow queue etiquette—people expect you to wait your turn.
Payments
Currency:
- The local currency is the Czech koruna (CZK).
- The exchange rate is usually around 24–25 CZK per 1 EUR (depending on the exchange office or ATM).
Card Payments:
- Most shops, restaurants, and cafés accept card payments.
- However, some smaller businesses and markets may only accept cash, so carry some with you.
ATMs:
- Use ATMs located at banks (e.g., Česká spořitelna, Komerční banka, ČSOB) and avoid unofficial ATMs in tourist areas.
- Decline offers for "dynamic currency conversion" as they usually charge higher fees.
